About Yongping Mine
Yongping is one of China's top copper-molybdenum producers and a classic locality for vivianite, scheelite, and a rich suite of supergene phosphates and sulfides. The mine's vivianite specimens are among the finest ever recovered.
Mining History
Operations expanded significantly in the late 20th century. Specimen finds — particularly deep-blue vivianite — entered the collector market in the 2000s through provincial dealers. The mine remains active with sporadic pocket releases.
Signature Specimens
Indigo-blue vivianite prismatic crystals (often gemmy, in clay matrix), pale yellow scheelite tetragonal crystals, fluorapatite hexagonal prisms, and pyrrhotite/sphalerite/chalcopyrite associations.
