About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with mica at 10.3 cm and 284 g; a cabinet plate. A plate of grey mica with pale blue aquamarine crystals set into it, the two minerals the supplier lists.

Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.

Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.

The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.

The piece is cabinet in size, 10.3 × 8 × 2.7 cm (4.06 × 3.15 × 1.06 in) and 284 g (10.0 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
