About this specimen
Yunnan aragonite at 5.3 cm; a small cabinet piece. Aragonite spreads across the plate as a crust of fine bladed crystals, pale blue-green at the centre and whitening towards the edges where the blades stand up and catch the light.
Aragonite grows as radiating or stacked crystals, a habit that gives the species its sculptural, coral-like look.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
