About this specimen
Several sharp, jet-black cassiterite crystals with a bright lustre sit in a nest of pearly, silvery muscovite mica books, with white quartz and feldspar around the edges. The cassiterite faces flash when the piece is turned.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of cassiterite on muscovite; this is a compact, honest example of the association, heavy for its size thanks to the tin oxide.
