About this specimen
Clear apophyllite crystals line a rounded cavity from Inner Mongolia. Transparent pointed prisms rise around the rim and lean toward the open center, creating a sparkling bowl of intersecting faces. Pale gray matrix supports the lower half, while fine colorless druse fills spaces between the larger crystals. Front and reverse views show the hollow interior, bright glassy luster, and nearly spherical three-dimensional form of the cluster. Dimensions: 2.8 × 3.1 cm / 28 × 31 mm / 1.10 × 1.22 inch. Estimated weight: 9 g / 0.32 oz, calculated from its dimensions.
