About this specimen

Inner Mongolia calcite at 49 g; a small cabinet piece with one clean, sharp crystal.

Calcite is the most shape-shifting of common minerals: over 800 crystal forms have been described, and Chinese localities produce many of the best.

The Huanggangliang skarn district of Inner Mongolia is one of the great mineral finds of the 21st century, known for fluorite, calcite, garnet and rare species.

By size it is small cabinet, 5.6 × 3.5 × 3.1 cm (2.20 × 1.38 × 1.22 in) and 49 g (1.7 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
