About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with feldspar at 3.8 cm and 21 g; a miniature. A clear aquamarine crystal with glassy faces and golden-stained feldspar patches at its edges.
Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.
Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
The piece is miniature in size, 3.8 × 1.2 × 3.3 cm (1.50 × 0.47 × 1.30 in) and 21 g (0.7 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
