About this specimen
Yunnan, rosasite-group copper-zinc carbonate at 2.8 cm; a miniature, supplied in the perky box shown. Copper mineral: avoid dust and wash hands after handling. A vivid turquoise crust of copper-zinc carbonate spreads across the upper half of the piece, its surface a mass of tiny rounded bubbles, with brown limonite showing through and a cream-coloured rock base below.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 2.8 × 2.7 × 1.4 cm (1.10 × 1.06 × 0.55 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
