About this specimen
Yunnan veszelyite at 4.5 cm; a miniature. Veszelyite in strong blue covers the upper part of a pale crusted rock, the growth running down into the dark hollows below where the crystals thin out.
Veszelyite is a rare hydrated copper-zinc phosphate that forms deep blue to blue-green crystals; the Laochang district of Yunnan is the best-known modern source.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
By size it is miniature, 4.5 × 4.1 × 2 cm (1.77 × 1.61 × 0.79 in). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
