About this specimen
Fujian smoky quartz at 6.6 cm and 57 g; a small cabinet piece. A dark smoky quartz crystal with sparkling flecks across its faces and a complete tip as the supplier notes.
Smoky quartz owes its brown-to-black tone to natural irradiation of trace aluminium in the lattice, and the best pieces keep transparency through the colour.
Fujian is China's most productive fluorite province, and its granite-hosted veins also yield the garnet, quartz and calcite that fill modern collections.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 2.3 × 2 × 6.6 cm (0.91 × 0.79 × 2.60 in) and 57 g (2.0 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
