About this specimen

Black wolframite blades cross and stack into a low raft, and out of that dark tangle grow fluorite cubes that run water-clear at the base into soft violet across their top faces. One larger cube sits near the centre like a keystone, two more cantilever off the right-hand end, and a pale elongated crystal juts from the left. Cream microcrystals dust the gaps between the metallic blades.

This is the Yaogangxian assemblage in miniature: a tungsten deposit whose ore minerals came up alongside gem-grade fluorite, which is why the mine keeps yielding pieces where the black and the violet share one hand specimen. Possible cassiterite and scattered brassy chalcopyrite sit among the metallics — both should be read as tentative rather than confirmed. Fluorite is Mohs 4 and cleaves octahedrally, so handle the piece by its wolframite raft.

It measures 5.0 × 4.0 × 3.0 cm and weighs 120 g, with no stand included. Nothing here is a stand-in — the pictures are of this exact raft of crystals.
