About this specimen
Frost is the first word for it. Beneath a continuous coat of sugar-fine white druse the outlines of stacked fluorite cubes stay perfectly legible — pale sea-green through the thinner patches, smoky grey-violet where the crystals sit deeper — and one heavier drift of druse gathers across the middle of the plate in a low mound.
A late coating like this is common in the Fujian pockets: fluorite grows first, then a final silica-rich pulse dusts every exposed face with quartz microcrystals. The result behaves like two minerals at once, the light-scattering matte skin of the druse laid over the glassy CaF2 body underneath. Fluorite is Mohs 4 with perfect octahedral cleavage, so keep knocks away from the plate edges.
The plate runs 6.0 × 5.5 × 3.0 cm and weighs 170 g, sized to sit in the palm and shown here handheld against grey, with no base supplied. These images were shot from the specimen you will be sent.
