About this specimen

Erongo, Namibia, green fluorite with tourmaline and mica at 32 g; a miniature with the pegmatite's classic trio.

Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.

Tourmaline forms striated prisms with a rounded-triangular cross-section, most prized when still in the pegmatite matrix. Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.

Namibia is a classic mineral country, home to Tsumeb and the Erongo pegmatites, sources of dioptase, smithsonite, aquamarine and schorl.

The piece is miniature in size, 4.5 × 2.7 × 2.6 cm (1.77 × 1.06 × 1.02 in) and 32 g (1.1 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
