About this specimen
Sichuan garden quartz with epidote at 4.8 cm and 32 g; a miniature. A clear quartz crystal with a rounded ball of dark green epidote grown onto its face, as the supplier notes, and black flecks inside, on a pale matrix.
Garden quartz (lodolite) carries inclusions of chlorite and iron minerals that build miniature landscapes inside the crystal.
Epidote forms pistachio-green prismatic crystals, often striated, and is a classic companion of quartz and feldspar in Chinese skarn deposits.
Sichuan's alpine-type veins and skarns yield aquamarine, prehnite, epidote and scheelite of international quality.
By size it is miniature, 3.2 × 1.8 × 4.8 cm (1.26 × 0.71 × 1.89 in) and 32 g (1.1 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
