About this specimen

Dimensions: 3.7 × 3.6 × 4.0 cm (1.46 × 1.42 × 1.57 in); longest edge 40 mm (1.57 in).

Sichuan gel-flower aquamarine with mica and feldspar at 4 cm and 42 g; a miniature from the Xuebaoding district.

Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety.

Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece. Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.

Sichuan's alpine-type veins and skarns yield aquamarine, prehnite, epidote and scheelite of international quality.

The piece is miniature in size, 42 g (1.5 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

  • Mineral: Aquamarine, Mica, Feldspar
