About this specimen
Guizhou siderite with calcite at 21 g; a miniature with two carbonates. A block of golden-brown siderite with a pearly lustre and a cluster of pale, translucent calcite crystals at the top corner.
Siderite is iron carbonate; it forms brown to golden curved rhombs and lens-shaped crystals with a pearly to submetallic lustre.
Calcite is the most shape-shifting of common minerals: over 800 crystal forms have been described, and Chinese localities produce many of the best.
Guizhou is the source of the collector creedite and hosts important fluorite, calcite and copper-mineral localities around Qinglong.
The piece is miniature in size, 3.7 × 2.7 × 1.6 cm (1.46 × 1.06 × 0.63 in) and 21 g (0.7 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
