About this specimen
Inner Mongolia siderite at 5 cm; a small cabinet piece, supplied on the acrylic stand shown. Siderite crystals in cream to pale straw are grouped over a grey quartz base, their curved rhombic faces catching a soft pearly sheen at the edges.
Siderite is iron carbonate; it forms brown to golden curved rhombs and lens-shaped crystals with a pearly to submetallic lustre.
The Huanggangliang skarn district of Inner Mongolia is one of the great mineral finds of the 21st century, known for fluorite, calcite, garnet and rare species.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 5 × 3.6 × 2.6 cm (1.97 × 1.42 × 1.02 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
