About this specimen
Guizhou siderite with prismatic calcite at 27 g; a miniature with a layered form.
Siderite is recognised by its warm brown tone and slightly curved rhombic faces.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Guizhou's Qinglong antimony-fluorite district is the classic source for creedite sprays and continues to produce zoned fluorite and calcite.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 3.5 × 2.5 × 2.1 cm (1.38 × 0.98 × 0.83 in) and 27 g (1.0 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
