About this specimen
Guizhou siderite with pyrite at 4.1 cm; a miniature. The supplier did not record a weight.
Siderite is iron carbonate; it forms brown to golden curved rhombs and lens-shaped crystals with a pearly to submetallic lustre.
Iron sulfide with a brass-gold colour, pyrite is heavy, bright and geometrically satisfying, with striated faces on the best crystals.
Guizhou's Qinglong antimony-fluorite district is the classic source for creedite sprays and continues to produce zoned fluorite and calcite.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 4.1 × 2.3 × 3.1 cm (1.61 × 0.91 × 1.22 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
