About this specimen
Guizhou siderite with dodecahedral pyrite at 7 cm and 143 g; a small cabinet piece. A tall plate of olive-brown siderite blades with bright brassy pyrite crystals in the dodecahedral form set among them, the pyrite faces striated and mirror-bright.
Siderite is recognised by its warm brown tone and slightly curved rhombic faces.
Iron sulfide with a brass-gold colour, pyrite is heavy, bright and geometrically satisfying, with striated faces on the best crystals.
Guizhou is the source of the collector creedite and hosts important fluorite, calcite and copper-mineral localities around Qinglong.
By size it is small cabinet, 7 × 5.5 × 2.8 cm (2.76 × 2.17 × 1.10 in) and 143 g (5.0 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
