Mint and White Fluorite Skull with Geode Cavity, China

A hand-carved green fluorite skull from China, left with a raw geode interior — the polished carved face on one side, untouched crystallised cavity on the other. The contrast between finished carving and natural pocket is the whole point of the piece. Translucent green with a vitreous lustre; fluorite’s Mohs hardness of 4 allows the fine detail.

About this specimen

Half of this skull was worked to a finish; the other half was left exactly as the pocket delivered it. The face — brow, cheekbone, jaw, both hollowed sockets — is smoothed rather than glassy, with apple-green fluorite drifting through milky white in broad irregular bands. Behind the temple the carver simply stopped: a crystallised cavity opens across the back of the cranium, its walls a rubble of frosted grey and white crystal no tool has touched.

Fluorite is an awkward stone to cut. At Mohs 4 it gives way easily to a wheel, but it also parts cleanly in four directions, so a cut taken across the wrong plane lifts a flake instead of a shaving. That is why carvings like this come from banded massive material rather than gem cubes, and why the green follows the original growth zoning, not any decision of the carver’s.

It measures 8.9 × 5.1 × 7.6 cm and sits square on its own jaw. The photographs are of this skull and no other; the pale shape below it is its reflection in the black glass used for the shot, not a base.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Fluorite natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
