About this specimen
Grass-green fluorite grains crowd through a pale, sugary groundmass on this 6.6 cm sphere — some of them sharp-edged blocks, others soft clouds that dissolve into the white. Rotate it and the pattern reads like lichen spreading on limestone: green islands, cream channels, and a few colourless windows where the light drops straight in.
The fluorite (CaF2) grew as scattered crystals inside the host rock rather than in an open pocket, so grinding the ball cut through hundreds of them at once; every green patch you see is the cross-section of a separate crystal. Fluorite is only Mohs 4 and cleaves in four directions, which makes a sphere this size awkward work — expect the occasional shallow pit where a cleavage flake let go under the wheel.
