About this specimen

The carver left the best part of the rock alone. The elephant’s back opens into an untouched pocket where hundreds of dark garnet-red crystals sit on a bed of grey druse, glinting like wet gravel; the rest of the animal — crosshatched ear, folded trunk, heavy legs — is worked from the grey host stone, with rust-coloured veins running across the flank and the eye set with a dark polished stone.

Garnet crystallises in the cubic system, has no cleavage and sits at Mohs 6.5–7.5, which is why the crystals inside a sheltered cavity like this keep such sharp edges and bright faces. Building a figure around a live vug is a harder problem than shaping a solid figurine: the pocket decides where the animal can go, and here it became the howdah on the elephant’s back.

The piece stands 11.4 × 8.6 × 6.9 cm and weighs 860 g, a two-hand object with a flat foot that needs no stand. The photographs are of this carving alone, not a representative sample.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Garnet natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
