About this specimen

Peru, marmatite with quartz at 8.7 cm; a cabinet plate. A bed of small white quartz crystals covers the front of the plate in a dense, snowy crust, with the dark iron-rich sphalerite it grew on showing through along the broken edges.

Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.

Peru's Huancavelica and Pasco mines are famous for pyrite, quartz, fluorite and sulfide specimens.

The piece is cabinet in size, 8.7 × 6.4 × 3.3 cm (3.43 × 2.52 × 1.30 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
