About this specimen
Blue and purple share this large Yaogangxian fluorite in patches — lavender-blue windows opening between violet-edged cube faces, the whole surface softly etched to a satin finish that diffuses light instead of flashing it. Ochre mineral inclusions caught between crystals add a vein of warmth to the cool palette.
At 930 g and nearly 12 cm across this is a two-hand piece, and the etched texture gives it a completely different character from glassy material: closer to sea glass than to mirror, with color that seems lit from within.
It measures 11.9 × 7.4 × 8.9 cm and mounts on the metal claw stand shown. From the Yaogangxian mine, Chenzhou, Hunan. The photographs show the exact specimen.
