About this specimen

Jinkouhe, Sichuan, quartz with calcite at 10.9 cm and 310 g; a cabinet floater, priced with the tip disclosed. Never clean the calcite with acid. A stout quartz crystal from the old Jinkouhe workings the supplier names, with a black-flecked phantom inside and tan calcite at the base, the base grown free; the supplier notes a very slightly damaged tip.

Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.

Collectors chase calcite for form rather than colour: crisp crystal edges and a habit you can identify from across the room.

Jinkouhe in Leshan, Sichuan, is the source of prehnite, gypsum and epidote specimens from a road-cut skarn discovered in the 2010s.

The piece is cabinet in size, 3.2 × 4.6 × 10.9 cm (1.26 × 1.81 × 4.29 in) and 310 g (10.9 oz). Disclosed condition: a very slightly damaged tip. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
