About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with scheelite at 6.7 cm and 83 g; a small cabinet piece. A cluster of pale, frosted aquamarine crystals with a single bright orange scheelite crystal set near the top, the scheelite glowing against the pale beryl.

Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety.

Scheelite is calcium tungstate, forming orange to honey-coloured bipyramids with a greasy lustre and a bright blue-white fluorescence under short-wave UV.

The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.

Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 6.7 × 4.3 × 2.8 cm (2.64 × 1.69 × 1.10 in) and 83 g (2.9 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
