About this specimen

Pale lavender fluorite crowns this specimen—a twin, two cubes interpenetrating, their edges offset in a shallow step that runs across every face. The colour is soft rather than saturated: near water-clear at the thin corners, gathering to violet where more material stands between you and the light. Below it the matrix is a lustrous brown-black tin ore sprinkled with pale yellow-green micro crystals, with a milky quartz crystal wedged in at the right.

Fluorite (CaF2) grows in the cubic system, and interpenetrant twins like this are a Yaogangxian habit worth seeking out: two individuals sharing one lattice, rotated against each other, so the re-entrant angles read as clean steps. Mohs 4 with perfect octahedral cleavage means it bruises where harder species would not—keep it clear of hard surfaces and tight display slots.

Compact at 5.1 × 4.6 × 4.6 cm and 165 g, it balances on its own matrix; no stand is included. Every photograph here was taken of this individual piece, and it is the one that will arrive.
