About this specimen

Two water-clear quartz points stand up from a thin dark plate like a pair of raised hands — the taller broad-shouldered and fully terminated, the smaller leaning away at an angle. Neither is green. The colour in this piece belongs to the bed they grew on, a mat of dark olive to near-black bladed crystals that runs the length of the plate and throws the transparent quartz into relief.

Maoniuping in Sichuan is a rare-earth carbonatite system, which is why its quartz turns up on associations you will not meet at the classic Hunan sulphide mines. Quartz is SiO2 at Mohs 7, hard enough that these terminations still carry their mirror faces after coming out of the ground; the fragile part of the specimen is the thin matrix, not the crystals.

The specimen runs 4.8 × 3.3 × 3.8 cm and weighs 40 g, and it stands on the clear acrylic block shown, tacked down with putty that peels away cleanly. Both the quartz and the block beneath it are the ones in these images.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
