About this specimen
Yunnan three-colour aragonite at 135 g; a small cabinet piece with the copper district's full aragonite palette.
Aragonite is chemically the same as calcite but crystallises differently, which is why it builds sprays and columns instead of blocky rhombs.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 7.5 × 5.8 × 3.4 cm (2.95 × 2.28 × 1.34 in) and 135 g (4.8 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
