About this specimen
Fujian garnet at 3 cm; a miniature. Dark red garnet crystals are set into a cream-coloured matrix, scattered across the surface with rusty haloes spreading into the rock around the larger ones.
Garnet crystallises as dodecahedra and trapezohedra, geometry that shows cleanly on well-formed crystals.
Fujian is China's most productive fluorite province, and its granite-hosted veins also yield the garnet, quartz and calcite that fill modern collections.
The piece is miniature in size, 3 × 2.7 × 2 cm (1.18 × 1.06 × 0.79 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
