About this specimen
A red spessartine garnet rises above pale quartz and feldspar. Fine angular steps trace several of its broad faces, while darker red areas appear toward the interior and lower edge. The pale supporting minerals extend outward beneath the garnet. The second view emphasizes the layered face patterns and the contrast between the deep red crystal and its white base. The source distinguishes the garnet's smaller measurements from the dimensions of the complete specimen. Dimensions: 1.9 × 1.2 × 1.8 cm / 19 × 12 × 18 mm / 0.75 × 0.47 × 0.71 inch. Estimated weight: 4 g / 0.14 oz, calculated from its dimensions.
