About this specimen

Namibian schorl with feldspar at 6 cm and 67 g; a small cabinet piece. A black schorl tourmaline prism standing on a base of white feldspar, the two minerals the supplier lists.

Schorl is black iron tourmaline, the most common member of the group, forming lustrous striated prisms.

Tourmaline forms striated prisms with a rounded-triangular cross-section, most prized when still in the pegmatite matrix. Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.

Namibia is a classic mineral country, home to Tsumeb and the Erongo pegmatites, sources of dioptase, smithsonite, aquamarine and schorl.

The piece is small cabinet in size, 2.9 × 3 × 6 cm (1.14 × 1.18 × 2.36 in) and 67 g (2.4 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
