About this specimen
Morocco vanadinite at 2.2 cm; a thumbnail, supplied on the acrylic stand shown. Flat hexagonal vanadinite crystals in a soft apricot orange, stacked one on another like tiles so that each plate steps out over the one below; the surfaces are matte rather than glassy.
Vanadinite forms red to orange-brown hexagonal plates and barrels with a resinous lustre; the Moroccan material from Mibladen is the classic.
Moroccan vanadinite from the Mibladen district is the world standard for the species, prized for red colour and sharp hexagonal form.
The piece is thumbnail in size, 2.2 × 1.9 × 1.3 cm (0.87 × 0.75 × 0.51 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
