Hundreds of small hexagonal vanadinite crystals scatter across a dark Moroccan matrix, their thin edges glowing orange-red while the flat basal faces flare white in direct light. The colour runs densest along the right-hand rim, where crystals crowd into a continuous crust. A thin, flat plate that sits easily in a case.

About this specimen

Scarlet confetti across charcoal. Hundreds of vanadinite crystals — hexagonal tablets and short barrels, most only a few millimetres across — are strewn over a dark matte matrix, and the light does two things at once: thin edges glow orange-red like backlit glass, while flat basal faces flare white under the lamp. The densest colour follows the right-hand rim, where crystals crowd into a continuous crust.

Vanadinite, Pb5(VO4)3Cl, belongs to the oxidised zone: it forms where descending water reworks primary lead ore under arid conditions, which is why Morocco supplies so much of the best. Vanadium gives the colour; lead gives the surprising heft in the hand. At Mohs 3 and brittle, it wants a soft brush and nothing abrasive — the crystal edges chip long before the matrix does.

The plate measures 6.9 × 1.5 × 5.3 cm and weighs 75 g, thin enough to lie flat in a drawer or lean upright in a case. No base was used for these photographs, which show this specimen exactly as it is.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Vanadinite natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
