이 표본에 대하여
연한 피스타치오빛 프레나이트 첨탑이 바닥에서 4 cm 남짓 훌쩍 솟아오릅니다. 융합된 포도상 돌기들이 쌓여 이루어졌고, 부드러운 밀랍 같은 광택과 빛이 조금 스며들다 멈추는 정도의 반투명함을 지녔습니다. 첨탑은 칠흑 같은 검은 결정이 점점이 박힌 서리 낀 백색 석영 덩어리 위에 서 있으며, 초록과 흰색, 검정의 색 대비가 진열장의 도움 없이도 대부분의 일을 해냅니다.
프레나이트는 칼슘알루미늄 규산염으로, 단독 결정으로 자라는 일이 거의 없습니다. 대신 수천 개의 미세한 섬유가 함께 바깥으로 방사되며, 지금 보고 계신 둥근 표면은 그 모든 섬유의 끝이 한꺼번에 도달한 자리입니다. 모스 경도 6~6.5로 부드러운 초록빛이 주는 인상보다 단단하지만, 표본을 들어 올릴 때는 아래쪽 석영을 잡으시는 편이 좋습니다.
높이 8.2 cm, 바닥 면적 6.2 × 4.8 cm, 무게 207 g으로 도움 없이도 똑바로 균형을 잡아 별도의 받침대가 필요 없습니다. 사진에 보이는 모든 것이 이 표본입니다.
