낮은 회녹색 판에서 연보라색 결정 두 점이 솟아오르고, 세 번째 결정이 그 곁의 바위에 기대어 누워 있습니다. 셋 모두 밑동은 거의 무색이다가 끝으로 갈수록 보랏빛을 모읍니다. 결정면은 밝고 끝맺음이 날카로우며, 발치에는 더 작은 결정들이 빽빽하고, 모암은 아래 가장자리를 따라 어둡고 치밀한 띠를 이루며 깨져 있습니다.
베라크루스 자수정은 변질된 화산암의 공동 안에서 자라며, 그래서 결정이 가늘고 흔히 홀로 서며, 이름을 들으면 대부분 떠올리는 브라질산 정동 표본보다 훨씬 옅습니다. 색은 규산염 격자(SiO2) 속 미량 철분이 자연 방사선으로 변화하면서 생겨나며, 같은 원리 때문에 햇빛에 오래 노출되면 색이 바랠 수 있습니다. 이런 표본은 밝은 창가에서 멀리 두십시오.
