About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Sichuan, cassiterite at 2.2 cm; a thumbnail, supplied on the mount shown.
Look for the elbow twins and mirror-like lustre that make cassiterite so distinctive; its density is nearly seven times that of water.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
