About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, cassiterite at 3.8 cm and 45 g; a miniature. A group of black cassiterite crystals with bright, sharp faces; the supplier notes a mining-contact base.

Cassiterite is tin oxide, heavy and adamantine, forming brown-black twinned crystals; the Chinese tungsten-tin deposits are a leading source.

Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.

The piece is miniature in size, 3.8 × 1.7 × 2.5 cm (1.50 × 0.67 × 0.98 in) and 45 g (1.6 oz). Disclosed condition: a mining-contact base. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
