About this specimen

Sky-blue hemimorphite has grown here in tight mounded sprays, each one a hemisphere of needles packed shoulder to shoulder. The colour pools deepest in the hollows between mounds — a soft, even turquoise — then bleaches to frost-white at the tips, so the crust appears lit from inside. Below it the dark brown base breaks into ochre-yellow streaks where the original zinc ore weathered.

Hemimorphite is a zinc silicate, Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O, formed in the oxidised upper levels of zinc deposits; the blue is generally credited to a trace of copper carried along in the structure, and Yunnan is the Chinese ground for it. At Mohs 4.5 to 5 the crust is firm enough to dust with a soft brush, but those needle tips are brittle — never drag a cloth across them.

The specimen measures 6.5 × 3.3 × 5.0 cm and weighs 111 g. Every photograph here was taken of this crust itself; it travels unmounted, without a stand.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Hemimorphite natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
