About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, quartz at 6.9 cm and 40 g; a small cabinet single crystal. A slender, clear quartz crystal with a sharp termination and exceptionally bright faces the supplier points out, with a greenish chlorite patch at the base.
Quartz is the most collected mineral on earth for good reason: sharp hexagonal prisms, bright terminations and endless variation between localities.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 1.8 × 1.9 × 6.9 cm (0.71 × 0.75 × 2.72 in) and 40 g (1.4 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
