About this specimen
Inside this stout quartz tower, the outline of the point repeats itself several times over. Thin white phantoms, each one an earlier tip of the growing crystal, stack up inside the termination like a set of nested roofs, and below them a snowy white cloud fills the base like a mountain under snow.
The upper part is clear and bright, so the phantom layers show sharply, and small rainbows flash in a couple of faces when sunlight hits them. The sides and tip are polished while the base keeps a rough, natural finish. Short and broad, it makes a solid, compact display piece for a shelf or desk.
