About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with mica and jamesonite at 4.3 cm and 27 g; a miniature. A flat, clear aquamarine tablet with golden mica rosettes at its base and fine grey jamesonite needles inside, the faces glassy.

Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.

Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals. Jamesonite is a lead-iron-antimony sulfide that forms hair-fine, steel-grey needles, often tangled inside quartz or scheelite from the Xuebaoding and Yaogangxian mines; wash hands after handling.

The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.

The piece is miniature in size, 4.3 × 1.4 × 3.5 cm (1.69 × 0.55 × 1.38 in) and 27 g (1.0 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Contains lead-bearing minerals: wash hands after handling and keep away from children and pets.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
