About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine at 4.8 cm and 38 g; a miniature. A flat, clear aquamarine tablet with glassy faces and a golden-brown iron patch on one side.
Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
By size it is miniature, 4.8 × 1.5 × 2.9 cm (1.89 × 0.59 × 1.14 in) and 38 g (1.3 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
