About this specimen
Yunnan topaz at 2.6 cm; a miniature, supplied on the acrylic stand shown. A blocky topaz crystal, water-clear through most of its body, with flat prism faces meeting a slanted top and faint internal veils catching the light near the base.
Topaz forms glassy prismatic crystals with a perfect basal cleavage; colourless to pale blue material from pegmatites is the collector standard.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 2.6 × 2.2 × 1.9 cm (1.02 × 0.87 × 0.75 in). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
