About this specimen
Yunnan topaz at 2.8 cm; a miniature, supplied in the display box shown. A topaz crystal in the palest straw, translucent with fine internal veils, seated in a white crusted matrix that wraps around its lower half.
Topaz forms glassy prismatic crystals with a perfect basal cleavage; colourless to pale blue material from pegmatites is the collector standard.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
The piece is miniature in size, 2.8 × 1.9 × 1.4 cm (1.10 × 0.75 × 0.55 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
