About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine at 6.9 cm and 123 g; a small cabinet single crystal. A stout aquamarine crystal in the palest blue-green with frosted, sparkling faces and a flat termination, complete overall as the supplier notes.

Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.

Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.

By size it is small cabinet, 6.9 × 2.3 × 6.3 cm (2.72 × 0.91 × 2.48 in) and 123 g (4.3 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
