About this specimen
DR Congo dioptase at 1.6 cm; a thumbnail, supplied in the display box shown. Dioptase in a deep emerald green forms a tight cluster of short prisms, with pale white bladed crystals grown up through the group and catching the light behind them.
Dioptase is a copper silicate with an emerald-green colour so intense it was once mistaken for emerald; the Congo crystals are the standard.
DR Congo's copper and cobalt districts produce the deepest green malachite and the most vivid cobaltoan calcite on the market.
By size it is thumbnail, 1.6 × 1.4 × 1 cm (0.63 × 0.55 × 0.39 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
