About this specimen
Guizhou dolomite-pyrite-quartz at 19 g; a miniature with three species.
Dolomite forms curved, saddle-shaped rhombs with a pearly lustre and is the usual companion of calcite and fluorite in Chinese carbonate deposits.
Iron sulfide with a brass-gold colour, pyrite is heavy, bright and geometrically satisfying, with striated faces on the best crystals. Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Guizhou's Qinglong antimony-fluorite district is the classic source for creedite sprays and continues to produce zoned fluorite and calcite.
The piece is miniature in size, 3.3 × 3.2 × 2.2 cm (1.30 × 1.26 × 0.87 in) and 19 g (0.7 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
