About this specimen
Hunan dolomite at 7.5 cm; a small cabinet piece. Dolomite crystals in cream white are packed into a rounded mass, their curved rhombic faces overlapping so the surface reads as a field of small saddles.
Dolomite's slightly curved rhombohedral faces separate it at a glance from calcite.
Hunan's tungsten-tin and lead-zinc mines have supplied the world with fluorite, calcite, quartz and sulfide specimens since the 1990s.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 7.5 × 4.8 × 3.4 cm (2.95 × 1.89 × 1.34 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
